Prosthodontics Specialty

Prosthodontics is a dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or jaw and facial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.

In Australia, a Prosthodontist is a specialist dentist who completed a further three years postgraduate training at an Australian accredited university beyond the basic dental training and must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to be able to work in the field of dental reconstruction.

Our principal of Laurea Dental is Dr. Sofie Bui, a female Specialist Prosthodontist is qualified to look after your specialised needs as well as any general dental health issues.

You may be referred to us by your family dentist or other specialists for a particular dental concern such as teeth discolouration, gummy smile, crooked teeth, missing teeth, gaps, worn or deteriorated dentition or jaw joint pain (Temporomandibular joint disorders) and sleep bruxism. However, you do not need to have a referral if you have noticed any of these concerns and wish to book a consultation with Dr Sofie Bui.

By identifying your dental problems, and arrive at an individualised treatment plan, our treatments may include prosthodontic procedures such as crown, bridge, veneer, complete and partial dentures and/or occlusal splint. With the current advancement on dental implants, commonly used to replace missing teeth, many prosthodontic procedures nowadays are involved with planning reconstructions using implant as the foundation and maintain these implant-supported prosthesis for the long term.
